Senate Football Officially Welcomes Jessica Derrick as Team Massage Therapist

Jessica was born in northern Utah and raised in the Salt Lake Valley. From a young age, she was always interested in how the human body moved. Out of high school, she began massage therapy school with a goal of eventually making it into sports medicine. She graduated from the Myotherapy College of Utah in 2007 and has been working on her Bachelor's of Integrated Studies at Weber State University with a minor in sports medicine, nutrition, and health promotion.

Her passion for working in sports began early in her education as she was working with the Utah Grizzlies, U of U football, and Real Salt Lake alongside her sports massage instructor. She has continued this work through the years working with athletes from the weekend warrior to pro sports. As her children have grown playing sports and cheerleading, she has made it a goal to work with younger athletes, educating them on properly caring for their bodies and taking the time to recover through their training. She added her personal training and corrective exercise certifications in 2010 in order to treat the whole body, especially compensational patterns that come along with sports injuries. 

Jessica began teaching sports massage and kinesiology at one of the local massage schools and realized that she needed to create a program and a space for those who really want to specialize their education. She decided to open her sports massage and recovery clinic, Optimal Therapeutics, in Riverton, Utah in 2021. She included a massage apprentice program where she is able to take future therapists through their full education and give them the opportunity to specialize and learn by working on athletes of all types. 

When Jess isn't working, you can find her at sporting events of all kinds, cheering on her 2 children through their activities, enjoying the beautiful outdoors, traveling, or just spending time with friends and family.
